It is a legal requirement under The Provision and Use of Work Equipment 1998 (PUWER) that all staff who use abrasive wheels receives abrasive wheels training in the safe use of the tools and changing of wheels.
PUWER 98 requires, among other things, that all machinery is suitable for its intended use and is properly maintained, and that employees, including those using, mounting and managing the operation of abrasive wheels, are fully informed and properly trained in their safe use. PUWER 98 demands that not only those that change or mount abrasive wheels but also those that use, operate, manage and supervise the use of abrasive wheels must be trained as well.
